It began as the Music Hall in 1852 and served
as the original home of the New England Conservatory
(Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto debuted here, as
did the BSO). Now, fans come to see modern acts that
have grown too popular for the city's clubs. Overshadowed
by the Suffolk Law School Building, the grand old lady
appears a bit dated, but despite its tattered appearance
(and so-so acoustics), all seats are filled for most shows.
Originally opened in 1852 as the Music Hall, Boston’s
Orpheum Theatre once featured lecturers like Ralph Waldo
Emerson and Booker T. Washington, and is now a concert
hall that hosts a variety of acts.
